The weapon of choice across the legions, no soldier would be without the famous gladius as a sidearm in addition to a pilum, or javelin. Effective and deadly in close combat, the gladius was capable of cutting and thrusting. With each soldier carrying this lightweight, small sword behind their Roman shields, or scutum, in unison, its no wonder the Roman army was such an effective, deadly war machine. This brilliant replica is made of Ehigh carbon steel with a full tang, copying the proportions of the original. The light, grooved bone grip joins together the dark wood rounded pommel and hilt. The sword fits neatly into the regal scabbard, made of wood and wrapped in black leather, crowned with brass and an elegant Roman design at the bottom with suspension points for a sword belt. This gladius, which achieved the glory of Rome, is a must for any re-enactor or avid collector of Roman replicas. Product Details:
