The Short Sword, also called an arming sword, refers to the single handed cruciform swords of the Middle Ages. It was typically hung from the belt of a knight while a long sword hung from the saddle. The Short sword was designed primarily as cutting weapons to shear through mail and/or armor; these weapons were big, but by no means unwieldy. The Cutlass was a short slashing sword, ideal for the close- quarters battles aboard great sailing men-of-war. Generally regarded as a pirate weapon, the cutlass was, in fact, issued to the naval personnel of many countries. Excellent for maritime re-creations, pirate costumes, and serious collections or home display, our cutlasses come in a variety of shapes and styles, from the swept-hilt Scottish Cutlass to the cup-hilt left-handed Pirate's Companion Sword.

The falcata and infamous gladius both trace their roots back to the Celtiberian tribes of ancient Hispania, whom the Romans encountered when they invaded the territory, a conquest that lasted from 218 BC to 17 BC—this fact alone shows that these Celtic tribes put of quite the fight.
