As armor grew more and more advanced, weapons had to be developed to keep up with the pace. Distinct to the years 1350 to 1550, the two-handed sword was capable of thrusts, cuts, and slices. It was a double-edged sword with a round point whose hilt was often straight but sometimes curved. The pommel could be triangular, faceted or pear-shaped, functioning as a decorative ornament that also balanced the heavy weapon. As time moved forward and gun powder became more and more prevalent on the battlefield, the two-handed sword was consigned to ceremonial purposes only.
