In fact, the Japanese samurai sword can trace its roots back to the Chinese sword as Chinese swordsmithing knowledge filtered into Japan. Although Chinese swords were eventually overshadowed by the Japanese both in practical use and in the popular imagination, beautiful examples of Chinese swordsmithing have continued to be made.
